Ikebana - Japanese Art of Floral Arranging

Presenter: Roxane Wasserman

Learn about ikebana: the Japanese art of floral arranging and its different schools and philosophies.  Roxane Wasserman will discuss what can be used in arrangements such as dry, spray-painted, or manipulated materials. Tools used and the conditioning of materials will be explained to provide a complete overview of the ikebana process. And best of all, Roxane will demonstrate several types of arrangements while responding to your questions. Materials used in the demonstration will be raffled at the end of the program.

BIO: Roxane Wasserman

An interest in both Eastern and Western floral art has inspired Roxane’s active involvement in ikebana in conjunction with her local Pound Ridge Garden Club and National Garden Clubs, Inc. flower show judging. Roxane’s designs have won numerous blue ribbons and top NGC design awards at both local and district New York Flower Shows, as well as at the Connecticut Flower Show. Her large outdoor bamboo structure, at over 11’ tall, is constructed at the entrance to the Pound Ridge Library. Many years of training under Sensei Judith S. Hata, a worldwide recognized Sogetsu ikebana teacher, and master classes in Japan have led Roxane to teach ikebana in the local area. She holds a Teacher’s Certificate from the Sogetsu School in Tokyo, Japan.
