Advanced Study: Invasive Crazy Jumping Earthworms!

As a master gardener and composter I am constantly on the lookout for resources that help provide insight into understanding our native landscape and the presence of what we call invasive species, both flora and fauna, that show up and may impact our backyard habitats.

Longtime friend and teacher Dawn Pettinelli is the Associate Extension Educator Department of Plant Science & Landscape Architecture at the UConn Soil Nutrient Analysis lab who regularly shares incredible resources through her Compost Cable to help us stay current.

This post focuses on one of the latest resources I am passing on to you in the form of a webinar from the UMass Extension Agriculture & Commercial Horticulture Program on invasive jumping earthworms!

In this webinar Dr. Olga Kostromytska, UMass Extension Assistant Professor and Turf Entomologist, discusses the identification and biology of invasive crazy/jumping earthworms in Massachusetts; and Nicole Keleher, DCR Forest Health Director, discusses the impact to expect from forest pests and diseases in Massachusetts in 2021
